Transferring Your Driver License or ID to Alabama

If you are moving to Alabama and need to transfer your driver license from another state, or if you are transferring your license from another county within Alabama, please review the following requirements:

Requirements for Transfers from Another State

  • Bring a valid Non-Alabama Driver License or ID.
    • If your license or ID has been expired for more than one year, testing will be required.
  • Provide Identity Verification Documents.
    • Additional documents are required if you are upgrading to an Alabama STAR ID (REAL ID compliant).
  • If you are under 19 years of age, bring acceptable school enrollment documentation.
