We are now offering an online service that enables you to register a newly purchased vehicle from an Alabama dealer. This process requires a title application. If you are in possession of a title that needs to be processed, you will need to come into your local office. 

If you have your title application, bill of sale, proof of Alabama insurance, and driver license for each owner, you may click the following link to register your vehicle online.

• Proof of Alabama insurance
• Alabama Department of Revenue title application.
• Bill of Sale or invoice (no buyer's orders or purchase agreements will be accepted).  Sales tax must be itemized.
• Dealer's affidavit, if applicable.
• If you have an Alabama plate that is to be placed on the newly acquired vehicle, bring it or the matching tag registration receipt.

Most out of state dealers will send the necessary documents directly to the Baldwin County Probate Office.  Once received, a license revenue officer will contact you with further instructions.   You must go to the location that has the paperwork (Bay Minette, Fairhope, Robertsdale or Foley) to complete your transaction unless you make arrangements ahead of time to have it transferred to another location.  

You may also be asked to bring some or all of the following:

• Title and Bill of Sale (If not included in dealer packet)
• Proof of Alabama Insurance
• Vehicle is required for a VIN inspection.
• Valid driver's license or state issued ID for every owner listed on title application; to view other forms of acceptable ID please   click here .
• A power of attorney will be required if registered owner is not present for registration.
• Gross Vehicle Weight Rating
• All leased vehicles will require a power of attorney for the lessee to handle title work.

• Title completely filled out and signed over by the seller. If seller does not have possession of their title, they must apply for a replacement from the state where it is currently titled. 
• Completed   bill of sale. 
• Proof of valid Alabama Insurance.
• Purchaser(s) must be present or a power of attorney form will be required. No other person (even a spouse or other family member) may complete these transactions.  If two people are named on the title and their names are joined by "and," both must come in or give the other person a power of attorney; if the names are joined by "or" either may come in.
• Valid driver license or state issued ID for every purchaser listed on paperwork; please click here for other forms of acceptable ID.
• Odometer reading is required for any transfer of a motor vehicle less than ten (10) years old.
• If you purchased your vehicle from an individual with an out of state title, you must bring the vehicle in for a VIN inspection.
• Motor Home registrations will require Gross Vehicle Weight.
• Title Application Fee:   $18.00

Administrative Rule 810-5-75.68 exempts vehicles 35 years or older from being titled in the State of Alabama however they do still have to be registered. Please bring the following:    

• A valid   Bill of Sale.
• Proof of Alabama Insurance.
• Buyer must be present or complete a power of attorney form.
• Valid driver license or state issued ID for every purchaser listed on paperwork; please  click here for other forms of acceptable ID. (Administrative Rule 810-5-8-.09)
• You may be required to bring the vehicle to be inspected by a license revenue officer in one of our Probate offices in order to verify that the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the vehicle matches the title or registration documents.
• Motor Home registrations will require Gross Vehicle Weight.
• This transaction cannot be handled online.

Utility Trailer Information: Registration Fee: $12.00 (plus applicable ad valorem taxes) 

Section 40-12-240 defines a utility trailer as a trailer primarily designed to be drawn by a passenger car or pickup truck, including but not limited to:

• luggage trailers
• other small trailers of similar size and function
• this does not include boat trailers

Section 40-12-252 applies to, but is not limited to, the following:

• Truck Trailers
• Semitrailers
• Tractor Trailers

Basic registration requirements:

• Models 20 years or newer: completed bill of sale and title documentation (title, title application or a manufacturer's certificate of origin)
• Models older than 20 years: completed bill of sale
• Trailer required to be present for a VIN inspection.
• Insurance is not required

Travel Trailer Information (including campers & pop up campers): Registration Fee: $12.00 (plus applicable ad valorem taxes) 

Section 40-12-252 requires that Alabama residents register privately owned travel trailers.

Basic registration requirements: Registration Fee: $12.00 (plus applicable ad valorem taxes) 

• Models 20 years or newer: completed bill of sale and title or title application
• Models older than 20 years: completed bill of sale
• Trailer required to be present for a VIN inspection.
• Insurance is not required
