The Baldwin County Regional Juvenile Detention Center recently received the results of its 2026 partial audit conducted by the Alabama Department of Youth Services (DYS), which reflected strong overall performance and positive feedback regarding facility operations, staff, and resident quality of life.
DYS Auditors expressed that they were extremely pleased with the facility, noting the quality of care provided to residents, the professionalism of staff, and the overall environment of the detention center.
What the audit found:
• The detention center passed 100% of required (mandatory) standards and 98.7% of additional standards.
• Auditors described the facility as clean, well-maintained, and operating effectively.
• Youth reported that they feel safe, well cared for, and supported by staff.
• Medical care, mental health services, and daily sick calls were found to be consistent and reliable.
• Staff training was reviewed and found to be adequate, with employees reporting they feel safe at work.
• Fire safety, sanitation, and security inspections showed no violations or deficiencies.
• Educational services include full-time teachers, classrooms, and computer-based learning.
• Recreation areas are used daily and were found to be safe, clean, and well maintained.
• Recordkeeping and compliance documentation were described as well prepared and thorough.
Auditors concluded this was an excellent audit, reflecting strong staff performance, effective operations, and a high quality of life for residents.
