The Baldwin County Commission and the City of Spanish Fort are pleased to announce that they have entered into an Intergovernmental Roadway Construction Agreement, pending final approval by the City of Spanish Fort, to construct roadway improvements connecting Eastern Shore Boulevard to Old Highway 31.

This agreement will provide for the construction of approximately one mile of new roadways and pedestrian improvements, a roundabout, access management, and the reservation of land for future consideration of a new BRATS transit hub.

The Old Highway 31 project will be the fourth project of the Baldwin County Commission’s 30 Cubed Program which is aimed at fostering collaboration with municipalities across the county to enhance the capacity and connectivity of our roadway systems.

“This partnership between the County and Spanish Fort is a wonderful thing as it will improve our roadway’s capabilities, capacity, and connectivity,” said Mayor Michael McMillan.

Mayor McMillan further added, “This project will improve transportation for numerous residents and businesses in this area, not to mention the safety aspects that are definitely going to improve”.

The total estimated cost of the project is $7,100,000.00 with the City of Spanish Fort funding $3,550,000.00 and the County funding the remaining $3,550,000.00. Eligible project costs include design, permitting, construction and construction engineering and inspection.

As Baldwin County continues to grow, initiatives like the 30 Cubed Program are vital to ensuring a resilient, well-connected, and efficient transportation network.

The 30 Cubed Program encourages voluntary partnerships with any municipality across Baldwin County, offering funding and support for roadway enhancements that align with regional transportation goals relating to capacity and connectivity improvements. By focusing on cooperative planning and resource sharing, 30 Cubed not only addresses current traffic demands but also prepares the region for future growth.
